My sister works at a Philippine call center and I have to admit that her anecdotes about her work are at times funny, and if not, a bit poignant as well. She has a lot of them, and believe me – really lots of them.
I’m not saying this to demean the call center industry – believe me, I have a lot of respect for them. I just want to say that working at a call center allows you a lot of leeway for unusual experiences, primarily because the people who are working there have very colorful and fascinating personalities as well. The truth is, you can’t survive in this kind of scenario if you don’t have an unusual personality to go alongside it. Who would want a boring caller, right? Who would like to hear a grating voice that can shred cheese in one instant? And wonder of wonders -- who would want to listen to someone who has the charisma of a wet newspaper? Get the picture?
That’s why I think that working at a Philippine call center is very good for those who are looking for something unusual in their lives. Not only will you be called an unusual person yourself, you will also have the privilege of earning more than those who work in dull, boring jobs. Nothing beats that.
